SPOILER ALERT
Leonard Nimoy
Look at J.J. Abrams using his fancy sci-fi connections.
After collaborating on his upcoming Star Trek reboot, Abrams has signed Leonard Nimoy to join the cast of his Fox baby, Fringe.
The 78-year-old Trek icon will play William Bell, Walter Bishop’s former lab partner-turned-millionaire founder of Massive Dynamic.
“It was a delight to work with Mr. Nimoy on Star Trek,” J.J. tells me. “The idea that he will play the mysterious, much-referenced William Bell is a thrill. I know I sound like a goofy fan boy, but I can’t help it: Leonard is an icon of the genre and such a wonderful actor. To have him come on board Fringe is a mind-blowing honor.”
The character is slated to debut in next month’s season finale and then return in the fall for an extended arc.

Not sure where to post this, but I was reading this over at massivedynamic.com:
THE MASSIVE DYNAMIC STORY
In 1992, after years of hard work and research, William Bell had finally succeeded in the creating the biomedical marvel that would change the face of medicine and assure his place in science history. His prototype nanoelectronic circuit enabled the translation of neural impulses into electronic data, a major breakthrough in moveable prosthetics. Bell decided the time had come to found a company that would, as he put it, “satisfy the technological needs of this century and the next.” With the backing of a small group of investors, BELLMEDICS was born.
1992 happens to be the same year Walter was put away. It seemed predictable from the pilot that Bell started the fire, framed Walter, and arranged for his committal, all to steal and market Walter’s research. But this timing, and the brain/electronics interface (something Walter did) seem to lock that for me.

yes, and that theory backs up my theory that Nina Sharp was indeed the lab assistant that was allegedly killed, and that she was just bell’s accomplice who dissapeared and came back with a prosthetic arm [that she might've lost on the fire] and a new identity. it would explain how nina would’ve spent a lot of time with walter, and had met peter on his childhood.
