Looking back at 113 - “The Transformation”
Fringe - 113 The Transformation | Posted by Scully.
What did we miss?
- I never put it together the first time around, but Conrad’s last name was ‘Moreau’. I wonder if this is in reference to HG Wells’ story ‘The Island of Dr. Moreau’? The story lines are very similar.
- The hallway outside the room where John Scott is being held is different than the one shown in the pilot episode. Either the set has changed or Massive Dynamic moved John to a different room.
- During a scene at the FBI we can see an image of a forest on the computer screen behind Olivia and Charlie…
.
…Call me crazy, but this looks verrrry similar to the forest that Alizee Ziva is running through in her video. Here is a screencap from her video…you be the judge.
.
What theories were overlooked?
- I’m re-visiting the Nina-Olivia connection theory again. When Olivia arrives at Massive Dynamic, Nina says “For what it’s worth, it was not my decision to keep this from you.” (referring to the secure lab behind her). Nina seems almost embarrassed about the situation. When she gives Olivia the news that John Scott was part of a bio-terrorist cell, she seems very apologetic and sympathetic, not unlike a mother giving bad news to her child. This, to me, is another example of subtle proof that Nina feels a strong connection to Olivia for some reason. My reason, as you all know, is that I believe Olivia is a clone of a child that Nina lost.
.
What makes sense now that didn’t before?
- The question to whether Massive Dynamic was uploading or downloading information from John Scott was answered in this episode. The only question now is…what information, specifically, were they looking for?
.
How have the characters developed?
- I thoroughly enjoyed Astrid’s front and center moment in this episode. Watching her give advice to Olivia about John, I realized, she’s paying closer attention to everything than people might think. She has a lot more to her than just being the helper in the lab and I look forward to seeing more of her surprising moments in Season 2.
-I enjoyed Peter’s ad-lib scene at the hotel. His ability to think on his feet is one of my favorite Peter traits. It’s just another example of how his past experiences have made him the impressive individual that we know and love.
.
What questions were never answered?
- How was John able to see, speak and interact with Olivia. These are supposed to be John’s memories, even Walter stated that it was impossible. Was it perhaps just Olivia’s interpretation, or were they memories John had of thinking about telling Olivia the truth and proposing to her? He wasn’t just interacting…he was self-aware…”Maybe I won’t know the difference.“. How is that possible?
- Hicks stated that he must have been dosed with the virus…not exposed, but dosed. Who dosed him and Marshall and why?
- What would be the purpose of such a bio-weapon? Who would buy something like this? It seems to me that turning your enemy in to humongous unstoppable murderous beast isn’t exactly the most effective way to kill someone. And it’s not exactly inconspicuous either. It’s not an airborne virus, so it would have to be administered up close and personal. So, dose…run like hell…pray to God? Not the best weapon, if you ask me.
- Who engineered this bio-weapon? What organization were they working for?
- When the plane is about to crash, we see something fall from the plane…what or who was it?
.
- Up until this point in the season, I had assumed that the tombstone seen in Olivia’s dream sequence in the pilot episode was in reference to John Scott. But Nina clearly states in this episode that John IS dead, so who was the tombstone in reference to? Was it just a clue that we hadn’t seen the last of John, a slight oversight by the writers, or was it about someone else all together?
.
What tie was Broyles wearing?
- This is the longest episode to date (their time, not ours), taking place over the course of four days. There are only three ties, due to the fact that the first night takes place outside and Broyles is wearing an overcoat, so his tie is not visible.
